FIELD NOTE, SEP 2026

Liberty, Missouri just landed one of the year’s largest AI data centers

Liberty, Missouri, has about 31,000 residents, up close to 4% since 2020. In March, Metrobloks announced a $1.4 billion AI data center there: three buildings totaling 568,800 square feet, a 25-year, $27.75 million community benefits agreement, and dozens of permanent jobs. Dozens, not thousands.

A data center of that size is a real fiscal and infrastructure event for a town this size: the tax base, the benefits agreement, the construction spend. It is not, by itself, a housing-demand event. Permanent headcount at a facility like this is small by design, and Liberty’s own jobs aren’t broken out separately in the data we track. It’s part of the Kansas City metro’s labor market.

Cadence Fund I already holds a closed acquisition here, a 119-unit build-to-rent community bought on the metro’s fundamentals, not on a single headline. The data center is a genuine tailwind for the town’s tax base and visibility. Whether it moves rooftops is a different, smaller number than the one that made the news.
